Aboriginal Education
We are committed to closing the achievement gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. We know that we need to learn about, nurture and value the cultural identity of our Aboriginal students to help them be successful learners.
We welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family members, parents and carers, as well as community members to our school so that we can get to know each other, learn about the local Aboriginal community and develop shared goals and plans for Aboriginal students.
The Aboriginal education policy confirms the NSW Department of Education’s commitment to improvement in educational outcomes and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Aboriginal resident
Mascot Public School partners with Aboriginal Resident Imogen Grant to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and perspectives into school life through cultural events, classroom learning, artwork, and visits from Elders - building respect for all students while strengthening belonging and pride for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families.
Cultural Breakfast
We hold Cultural Breakfasts, bringing families, students, staff and community together to connect, share, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, identities and achievements in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Dharawal Language Program
Gujaga supports Mascot Public School with the revitalisation of Dharawal language through engaging, hands-on learning experiences where students develop their understanding of Dharawal words for family, body parts and animals.
Go Foundation
Through our partnership with the GO Foundation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are supported through mentoring, cultural connection and engaging experiences that build confidence, leadership, teamwork and a positive vision for their education and future pathways.
Personalised Learning Pathways
PLPs bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and teachers together to celebrate strengths, share aspirations, identify goals and ensure each student feels supported, connected to their culture and valued as part of the Mascot Public School community.
Sista Speak
Sista Speak brings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls together in a supportive and culturally safe environment to yarn, build confidence, celebrate culture and identity, strengthen connections and explore wellbeing, relationships and future aspirations.
